He didn't look like much of a fairytale.

Maybe he had stolen a hero's skin; if Prince Charming had been a hale and (un)willing donor, something approachable fitted over the the raw and dangerous like a form fitting glove, roughened only a little around the edges from hard use. A physical specimen, a man (maybe) in fine fettle, of a frame that was no stranger to all things strenuous, but without the slowing flaw of all the bulk. A man more Achilles than Ajax, with the staunch intent to avoid either's fate. Eyes the color of old tombstones in the rain were as prone to dancing amusement as
the raptorial wariness of the harrier and the harried. There was steel in his stare, in his spine, rough and real.

Where the clothes couldn't hide, an artist's ink and licked the permanence of legacy on his skin, a litany of strange words and symbols known only to the long dead or worse; a codex for something long forgotten and who knew how far or deep the words spread on him.

He was easy on the eyes, for all of it. Easy company. Easy to get along with. He played at normalcy as easily as a child at recess. Lied as easily as everyone else.

Maybe better.

Sometimes his shadow moved of its own accord. Sometimes the a seasonal breeze or a stranger's breath spoke other words with his voice. Sometimes the faintest smell of brimstone followed him. Sometimes just being within arm's reach made people wary. Uneasy.

Sometimes he stopped being so nice.

Sometimes the fairytale was a lie.
