Ye gonna challenge 'im?Maria Graziano wrote:Nobody cares about some stupid decade old beef, you ancient hag. You make a boring overlord. Do us all a favor and give someone else the chance to challenge so we don't have to deal with your snooze fest of a reign.
By the way, unless there's something in it for me, I'm renegade.

Nae bloody likely, is it?
I'll challenge when I feel like it... nae accordin' tae yer whims. Ifin ye don' like th' idea o' me holdin' th' Mantle, then meybe ye should challenge me ifin I get it... or get one o' yer boys tae challenge me now.
In other words... shut yer trap or do somethin' 'bout it.

Shut my trap up? Wow. Now I'm insulted. Wait, wait. I think I might even cry. Is telling me to shut my trap really the best you've got? You've been on this planet for what? Half a century? You should have one or two good zingers by now.
Why is it so unlikely that I'll challenge? Maybe I will. At least I won't turn the entire Arena into Sleeping Beauty's palace. I'm a little pissed that Harris lost. He made this place fun and Cletus is lucky if his old, addled brain can remember how to find his way into the Arena.
Thanks for the idea, Karen. I'll look into that challenging for Overlord thing. That'd be a nice feather in the Crew's cap.

On the night of June 7th, 2007, I did witness the challenge between the winner of this spring’s Warlord Tournament, Cletus Ganderfald, and Overlord Harris D’artainian. The Warlord dueled under the flag of Polaris, his lady of honor was Arane Ganderfald, and his second was Magnus Eques. Harris D’artainian dueled under the watchful eye of Athena, his lady of honor was Sarah Allian, and his second was Sartan. The Overlord requested the challenge be conducted in the Best-of-Three format. So it was.
The first duel began very much in favor of Overlord D’artainian, as he showed himself ready to defend. After five rounds, he held a 4-0 lead and threatened to open the night with a shutout. Warlord Ganderfald’s experience began to shine through, however, as he racked up four quick points of his own to bring the duel to a tie. In the tenth round, the Warlord attempted his second slash, and, as it failed him in the opening round, it failed him in the end, allowing another of the Overlord’s attacks to beat him.
In hindsight, one must wonder if, through the events of the opening the duel, the Warlord did not plant a seed of dissonance within the Overlord’s pysche to disrupt the hubris the Overlord displayed at the start of the match. At the beginning of the second duel, the Overlord caught the Warlord’s attack for the 1-0 lead, but it would be the last lead he would see this night: Two rounds later, the Warlord tied the score at one apiece; with the score at two apiece in the fifth, the Warlord scored three subsequent points, answered by the Overlord only in the final round as the two exchanged cuts.
The third duel started as the last one ended, with the duelists again trading blows. Overlord D’artainian continued to attack, while the Warlord began a flurry of parries. It was not until he trailed 3-1 that the Overlord pulled back. With the score at 4-2 in the seventh round, the Warlord Ganderfald expertly eluded a high attack from the Overlord to secure the victory and the beginning of his fourth reign.
Two Barons were in attendance: the Baroness of Old Temple, Rena Cronin, declared herself Loyal; the Baron of Old Market, G’nort Dragoon-Talanador, declared himself Renegade.

From reading the histories I find that the current overlord retired after losing the title in his previous reign. I also discovered that he did not successfully defend the title in either of his last two reigns. I further discovered that he lost the title of overlord in all of his previous reigns to the winner of the warlord tournament. The current overlord's challenges for the title prior to this one have always come from the position of baron. I have read that he is good at picking allies to overcome the test of worthiness but has never used it himself.Max Blue wrote:This is Cletus' fourth reign. Instead of speculating about how he'll carry himself, you could just read a little history.

I have inferred that there is a great deal of bad blood between his faction and Master Talanador's faction but only a small amount of this can be gleaned from the histories themselves.
I have read that his is rude to his enemies but I have little issue with that habit.
I have found very little else to indicate what kind of man he is so your advice has proven of little worth.
