Fire Castle

Post by Kheldar »

Kheldar rarely had reason to be on the Isle during its off hours before this morning. It was a peaceful place to be when someone wasn't trying to incinerate you. The big man paused and shuddered slightly at that thought, which pretty much explained why he rarely found reason to be there during dueling hours either. He'd won a place on the Isle though, and it was going to be busy there today, it only seemed right to do something for his new 'neighbors'. And he decided that would be a pig roast, which required cooking all day.

A small monotone voice brought him back to reality. "I want to see the fire Castle now. " Kheldar looked down at the cart he had been pushing before the moment of reflection had stalled their progress. The small girl looked back up at him, near expressionless, with just a hint of excitement and impatience. A hint for Rylee, however, was full on Christmas morning exuberance for most children.

"It's up there," he pointed the volcano out as they crossed the rock plateau towards the beach "but I need to get the pit dug and the food started. We can see it later." The little girl's eyes narrowed ever so slightly at that and she hopped off the pile of the brick pile she had been sitting on. "Stay close," he warned as he reached the sands.

"Just whoosh it Daddy." Ry said with a pseudo magical wave of her hand, as she watched her father grab a shovel and start digging the shallow pit in the sand.

"It won't take that long baby just relax." Manual labor had always had a calming effect on the big man. Before he had a family he would often take odd jobs to fill his time for that reason, and was the reason he was doing this by hand now. He watched his daughter a moment as she studied the rings and other things around her. He smiled slightly and continued his work. It did not take him very long to dig the shallow pit and line it with the pavers he had brought to keep the sand at bay. Rylee came back from her exploring as he was lining the bottom of the pit with wood.

"Whoosh the fire." The girl insisted, quite a feat with little to no inflection in your voice. The request punctuated with another mysticalesque gesture.

Shaking his head and chuckling. He'd wanted to spend some time with the key before attempting to draw on it's powers, but no such luck it seems. "Yes dear." He'd often used magical items, and much of his dueling was due to the equipment he brought to the ring. For some reason this felt different, yet he instinctively knew how to do it. It seemed like an eternity, but it was really only a moment or two and the lumber he'd placed at the bottom of the pit burst into flames, eliciting a tiny squeak of excitement from his companion nearly missed over the crackle of the flames. An unexpected advantage of doing it the 'easy' way was the fire quickly turned the wood into the coals he needed. He worked quickly after that, burying the already prepared pig in the pit, heaping the coals over the top and covering it quickly to reduce oxygen and keep it from burning.

"Fire Castle Please." That same "insistent" voice informed him even before he'd stood up from his work. He looked up at the volcano a moment, then back down to his daughter. He told her he would take her to see it. He reached out and she wrapped her little hands around his first two fingers.

"Yes Ry. We can go see the tower." Checking to make sure he'd replaced the key in his bag he was lead away. Up onto a volcano. To a tower made of flame.
