For duelists who've been around since late '96

Post by G »

I mentioned it in a previous post and am going to make an offer based on curiousity only, for other duelists.

Since I found my dueling records from late '96 to Feb 2001, that's 5 years of dueling, if you are bored and curious enough to want to know, I can tell you Your record against me, what the scores were, most cases the rounds and more than likely the callers.

It'll be a private thing, so either send me a PM or mail me at gnort@gnort.com with your character/characters who you'd like me to look up. Now, this is only for against me, because I didn't keep anyone elses records.

Oh, and if you're Jeff, Elijah, Lupton or Kalamere, just take comfort in the fact that we dueled enough times to demonstrate you all usually kick my ass 8 out of 9 times. :)

Weird to see this today, when I've been going through box after box of remnants of my life and chanting to myself, "Old cheese, throw it out! Old cheese!" It took me a few years to finally throw away my duels from the early-mid-90s.

Just out of curiosity G... did you keep a running W/L record of individuals at the time, or are you now going back and counting individual duels against that person and calculating the W/Ls?

I remember when I first started dueling in '94 that people would actually take the time to totally analyze a certain char's duels, and "run the numbers" through probability charts, calculators and maybe an abacus to come up with an individual formulaic pattern for that char's dueling style. Boggled my mind... still does.

I know a lot of people still do that - they call it scouting. I'm a new duelist, but I got my beginnings a few years ago in the Team Dueling League, and everyone warned me about scouting. I see the benefits in being familar with your opponent, though the extremes that some people take it seem a bit silly to me. :p Though, for some, it works.

Nothing remotely like scouting actually, and No, Sim, I didn't keep records of others but I knew whether they were a WL or not for some time because I always put an * by their name if they were a WL or higher. :)

What I was doing wasn't keeping duel round by round results, just duel results. Like..

Date Duelist Result Score Length Record Overall rec. Called by
10/14/97: JOakenshield Win 5-4 14 rounds 32-10-2, 742-650-25 Luth

That's all the info I have. :)

Elijah, if you want exact numbers, I can do it for you. ;) But you'll see that you win 8 of 9 times. :) I can even break it down by characters I know.

I don't remember the exact reason why I kept these types of records other than it became useful to track peer wins later on. It's just something nostalgic.

I remember dueling Gnort once or twice before either of us was a WL. Ah the old days.

I remember Gnort had some odd vairatins of the Gnort SN back in the day because his record would suck so bad for the cycle. I used to think him and Tass would never make it to Warlord.

Now look at the two, Barons and all. Makes an old man proud that all those beatings I gave them did some good. lol

Truth to tell.. *I* never thought I'd make it to M@A. There were a few times that I did make Swordsman, but that lasted all of like.. a day or two.. enough for one weekend of dueling, then it would plummet to a point where I wouldn't see Swordsman for the rest of the cycle.

But for me, it wasn't so much about winning, which is good cause I sucked at it for a while. It was the play and the fun, and the people.

Thanks for those beatings, E. :)

This include WL tourney, Baronial challenges ect? I'm game since I've dueled you more than a handful of times.

I'd really like to find my record against Dalamar since there was a two year stretch he couldn't beat me with the SN but could with others.
Ya know when they say that no
matter how good you are there's
always someone out there that's better?
That's me.

I only had one challenge against you which was the famous "Three challenge matches in one night Queue" match you did, where I was the third challenge and got creamed. You beat Rix, then Zaradda, and finally me. I think the score was 5-1 or 5-2.

WLTs I don't know. :( I don't have those written anywhere but wish I did. I may have one bracket from the first WLT I was ever in that details who beat who, but I've no idea where that is right now.

Aside from that, in regular dueling, I'll look it up. Just need to know which SNs you want me to look up for you, cause I only know of a couple. Your main three, plus one specific robot which I won't say out here. ;) If there's any others you're comfortable letting me know, gimme a PM. :)

Heh, actually, the numerous variations of the Gnort SN, such as Gnort15, Gnort16, Gnort17, DaGnortMan, and probably a host of others, weren't because my record sucked. ;) It was due to the Price Per Hour(2.99?) AOL had. So, some of us had ways around that. So yeah, it'd eventually get caught and cancelled so I'd have to create a new one. :)

Heh, I remember being the one giving him the title "Emperor of Commoners" because I was grumbling so much about losing I declared myself something like Overlord of Commoners or King of Commoners and Tass got all indignant on me, yelling and screaming and crying(Just kidding!) and said he'd been around longer and had more losses so he deserved those titles. So we agreed to call him Emperor of Commoners. :D

Now, I guess it just doesn't fit. I'm like.. an 6-8 time Baron, Tass is like a 2 time Baron, and we've been Warlords or Better for years now.

Ahh time passing is entertaining.

Wow and I thought that I'd NEVER see so many OLD MEN in the same room in my life. Looks like a Florida retirement home here.... I get the good golf cart.
I stumbled in here by total accident. Started in the DOS in 94 and then ended up working for nearly 4 years (have never dropped my RDI Heath screen name from other forums that belong to) before marraige and a son ate up all my free time
Just have to say that this brings a flood of memories back and all the hours and hours (and hours and hours) of fun calling and dueling, finally making WL. All the theatrics of jeff, Luthie, G, Prin and Tass. All the hating of E..... TDL w/ G and Prin....
Just a month ago I found all my calling tools and some "scouting" reports that AJBird taught me how to make AND I even found my Power Tools disk....
Great to see all you guys again!

the former... RDI Heath / Bended Kne

Heath!! ::waves::
When you find some time that isn't already being nibbled on, do drop by at least for a drink if not for a duel.
