A plain white note card in a plain white envelope arrived in Mallory and Eri's mailbox. The message printed on the card was typed and reads as follows:


Mr. Delahada sends his regrets that he is unable to attend the wedding ceremony of Mallory St. Martin and Eri Maeda. He extends his congratulations to the happy couple and expects a prosperous future for them both.



The card is not signed, but it is stamped with a Matadero Meat Company logo, with a return address to the facility, suggesting that it was prepared and sent by an administrative assistant.
