dos - baronies & things

Post by Delahada »

been doing some reading around - a lot of it - trying to wrap my head around everything

remember - I'm still new to all of this, so the information I'm looking for may be somewhere. I just haven't found it yet.

okay! so what I'm wondering is: are there any setting descriptions anywhere for the seven baronial residences?: Old Temple, Battlefield Park, Dockside, Dragon's Gate, Seaside, Old Market, and New Haven.

I've seen, in RP, mention of the Overlord's mansion, a general idea of its location, on Twilight Isle?, but nothing anywhere that really describes it in too much detail.

the duel of magic side has some really awesome setting descriptions for all the towers and such. I'm really digging the rp aspect of everything around here, how people actually role-play out the challenges, even in letters and the coordinators approving or disapproving them. even that little bit is awesome to me, but-

if it ever came down to it, if by some miracle I hit warlord and got enough peer wins or whatever to challenge a baron, I'd want a really good reason as to why. why would my character be interested in this barony over the other one? what's enticing about Battlefield Park -vs- Dragon's Gate, for instance? what are the areas that these barons "oversee" like? what do the baronial mansions look like?

really - apart from the character to character aspect. my character currently doesn't have anything against any of the barons to want to challenge him or her for his or her title. as a side note I think it's awesome that Xenograg came down to "scout" the rings the other night, and I also wanted to give him kudos for that. I think a lot more active rp is going on around here after a long time of it not and that's awesome.

so - setting descriptions? y/n?

I remember reading the descriptions for DoS Baronies somewhere... I will see if I can track it down and link it for you.

As for the Overlord, he has an island (not Twilight Isle) with a castle on it, if I remember correctly. I think it is out in the bay, I can't remember if I ever saw a description on this or not. I only remember being told this by other players.

This may help, at least with orientation: http://www.ringsofhonor.org/community/w ... u=settings

The Overlord Isle is on the map, in the west.

Thanks Matt! I forgot it was there on the map. XD

Also, for the Baronial Manors, check out this old thread in the forums. It was put up after we went from 13 rings to 7, and the Baron's took charge of the the diferent districts in RhyDin. Keep in mind though, the Barons are figureheads (mostly).

wow - okay - so some things crossover

the lighthouse stands on dm/rdi and here, but this is the first time I've heard it referred to as Overlord Isle. I always thought that was Twilight Isle xD but now that I take a closer look, Twilight Isle looks nothing like the Overlord Isle. not very specific on where it's located, though. another dimension/plane or something? getting off my own topic - sorry!

thank you both, Tormay and Matt, for your responses and links! very helpful! but at the same time mildly disappointing.

I do know that the barons are just figureheads, really, but-- a lot of them play out their titles with the air of importance they probably properly deserve. and so what if it's just for sports events? so what if their title is only official in regard to the duels and not the overall governing of Rhydin as a whole? I think it's still an important political position, all things considered, in my opinion.

I guess what I'm really getting at is that-- DoM has this spectacular layout for setting descriptions. even DoF has an awesome synopsis on the opals and what they can do. I think it'd be awesome if there was something like that on the DoS side concerning the baronial districts and manors as well. I think that information needs to be put up somewhere where anyone curious, like me, can read into it and get a stronger feel for the great history RoH has going on here.

and on that history - well, that might be best reserved for another thread.

Twilight Isle is located in a pocket dimension, usually accessed through a portal located somewhere in the Red Dragon Inn.

Skyler somewhere had a post that included him living in the New Haven mansion. Don't know if it really described it at all or if it would be in line with other posts. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

thank you, Locke! and thank you, Jewell! if you could find that post of Skyler's, I'd love to read it

G'nort! you are THE MAN! thank you so much for those links. I devoured them all. took me most of the night to read them due to gaming between, but I finally just got through with them and they are spectacular! if you, or anyone, happens to still be in contact with Rory, please tell her that.

I wasn't aware of that storyline being in existence before now, and I love it. the history this place has, like I said, is just amazing. which brings me back to my other thought/question

I'd love to see the baronial manners get a write-up that compliments what is already present for the elemental towers for dom and the opals for dof. it would be awesome if there were other stories written somewhere about the times since then that those baronial manners were occupied. y'know - to see what other players have added to it and such. stuff to work off of to show how they've changed and developed over the years. something to help paint a clearer, more modern picture than the dust and cobwebs Rory encountered when first finding and securing the properties for dos.

I think that history needs to be preserved and present on the main pages somewhere like that. somewhere so that in the future, if anyone else is thinking like me, they have a quick reference to refer to, even if just with links to posts, when and if deciding and able to challenge for a baronial ring. I think the property helps make the decision in my opinion. reading those posts already had a couple of them catching my eye! like the ghosts in Battlefield Park and the church in Old Temple! LOVE those ones. really gives me something to work with, so thanks so much!

I looked through Skyler's old posts. While two of them take place at the Manor, he didn't describe the setting at all, so I don't know if you'd still want to see them? I can send you the links later if you'd like.

Topaz turned the bottom floor of Dragons Gate Manor into a museum, and when Aya won the title from her, she re-opened the dueling school. I am not sure if Aya opened it to the public, or used it for herself, or had students.

Later when Tormay won the title from Tass, he focused more on the museum part. I don't think there were any posts, just live play refering to that. Maybe one or two posts hidden somewhere.

Delahada,

While Bran was Baron of Battlefield Park, I wrote a storyline where he had to take over duties more than being just a figurehead, and repelled a goblin invasion of the district, adding elements of action, adventure, political intrigue, and comedy. I tried to base it off of the RhyDin Map and setting of the district as best as I could find on the site. Take a look if you wish.

And I thought they were great posts, btw. :) I've always loved it when people do a little extra with the settings, even if they don't necessarily have to.
